Boy, I must say that this has been quite a ride!
Art-Faux Designs new studio located at
25987 South Tamiami Trail Bonita Springs Fl 34134 at Bonita Commons
is nearly complete. Unfortunately I have had to cancel 2 classes and reschedule the grand opening 3 times but I am glad that I haven’t posted any new class schedule to save myself and the guest instructors from any confusion. The last class I held in November had two changes of venue because of construction delays even though I was scheduled to be in on Nov 1st. There were many people depending on me and I had to follow through with the class regardless of the consequences.
The class was still a great success but I still ended up becoming the proverbial whipping post, but I have no regrets because I know I did the right thing, most importantly was to make sure that the students had a great class experience and I would do it again if put in a situation like this again, BUT it wont happen again!
I designed the space to have as much room available within the studio area, to allow for large mural projects if needed and to use the facility to its fullest potential. The lobby pictured here is only 20′ x 12′ and will be most likely trompe loeil to the hilt because thats what I like to do, but there will be many other finishes incorporated into the mural that hopefully I will have all the bases covered.
The parking lot in front is quite extensive and will support art shows, live events and other cultural events that are in the planning stages with
I think this is the hardest part is deciding what to do with a blank canvas and with the double door entry into the studio it must be impressive
hmmmmm!!
One of the two adjacent walls which will have enough room to support 10 students comfortably.
Each work station can support as much as a 5 ft wide mural with electric at each station to use as they wish, which I found was a small issue at some of the schools that I have attended.
The lighting in the studio will be flourescent with the “Natural Light” tubes and directional lighting will be added at a later date so as it can be zeroed in on where the artist feels more comfortable.
There will be wall space available to rent on a temporary basis for artists on the short term so as not to conflict with class or work schedules
Anyway this is just a run down on whats coming together finally and we will be opening very soon.

The new artists venue is finally underway in Bonita Springs Florida!
The December 5th Saturday opening of
Florida West Arts Gallery was a huge success
and the walls are finally going up for Art-Faux Designs new studio! it looks as if we may get to the grand opening by the end of February after all. With all the delays and headaches that have been associated with this I was beginning to wonder if this was even going to happen.
Even after having been forced to finally get some rest because of over exhaustion I am still pushing forward to the goals I have set for 2010 of this being the best year ever for Art-Faux Designs Inc. and for anyone associated with us. But without further ado I wanted to present this amateur video I have put together to show how far everyone has come after a year of hard work and planning.
Yes this is just one of many things I have been learning in the past year to hopefully benefit others in our industry and
there’s more to come!
December is a very busy month as we all know, with the holiday shopping, Christmas parties to attend and a whole slew of networking and charity events that we all seem to schedule at the same time, that it seems we just don’t have enough time to get to all of them.
But, I did manage to get to 3 events on Saturday alone which of course one being the opening of Florida West Arts Gallery opening in Bonita Springs. The other two I attended, the first being a convention at the Hyatt Hotel at Coconut Point that involved a silver and gold business that I am involved with that had a very impressive turn out with over 200 people from around the country and from Florida. I am very thankful that I have become involved with this lucrative opportunity and the future looks very bright with the opening of new locations in Canada and the fact that Home Shopping Networks own Mike Mezack has joined us in our efforts to see our opportunity to go global.
The 3rd was a charitable event hosted by my very dear friends Clay & Kelly Cox of Kitchens by Clay in conjunction with TasteBuds Custom Catering who made available some wonderful hors d’oeuvres that were put together by Chef/Owner Greg Shapiro and served by his wonderful staff. The event entailed a silent auction of items that were donated by many area businesses and individuals which were to benefit The Naples Equestrian Challenge Inc. which encourages that “Riding therapy for children and adults with disabilities” is the main focus which I will write about on another post.
But my main focus here is to let everyone know that Art-Faux Designs grand opening will continue as planned for the latter part of January of 2010 and will be an active part along with other area artists in business to make this new venue for everyone in the arts a location to expand their creative energies and communicate with one another to learn and grow as artists and a place to meet with the idea of social events, art shows, musical endeavors for the public through the combined efforts of the businesses of Bonita Commons to make this all possible.

As we are moving right along with several plans all at the same time I find myself slowly losing my hair a little more each day due to the fact that I am doing all the menial stuff that needs to be done in order to keep up with my 2009 business plan. The economic climate has forced me into this position and as a result I have learned more about today’s technology in the last 10 months than what most people would take to learn in 2 to 3 years. But the thing about it is, the more I learn the more interesting it becomes and it has actually opened up new opportunity in other art forms much to my surprise. Since learning about all the different software and programs it has become an asset for the business its self.
But that’s another instructional that I will be putting together at a later time.
Since I am getting a lot of things accomplished this weekend there is just one more thing I have to announce before I close for the weekend and this is to announce the

It really was an amazing Saturday afternoon at The International Design Center!
But I wouldn’t have been able to do it alone, which is why I am posting here today. These are very special people who were at the “What To Know Before You Faux” event on Saturday August 8th and who truly were an asset to the out come of this event, I would like to mention their names and thank them publicly for all their help. First of all PJ Hoover of Fauxtastic Dreamscapes of Naples, who has been by my side for the whole summer with these events and coming to my rescue more than once, I can not say enough about her, she really believes in what we are trying to accomplish here in Southwest Florida and we are actually creeping up on our goals and are getting the recognition for our efforts of building a network of high quality artisans and craftsman. Our goal is to bring artists out of their proverbial shells and join us on our journey to create a more open atmosphere amongst local and non-local area artists, home owners, Interior Designers, builders, vendors of high quality products and to meld the creativity between ALL artists no matter what their specialties or mediums are, because decorative art shouldn’t just stop at the walls and ceilings.
The second artist I wish to thank for his quick thinking and responsiveness to a rather over whelming influx of guests that seemed to be coming through the door like a Florida hard rain and making sure that the seating was taking care of, who also has been with PJ and I from the very beginning of our quest is none other than Florian Spahiu of Ancient Modern Finishes.
I also have a special thank you that it is much deserved going out to Michael Schleider of Coni-Mar Designs of Naples, who showed up right when the timing couldn’t have been better, and I must say between all of them jumping up to the plate in the middle of the ninth inning enabled me to hit a home run for the crowd, to bring in what I thought was a game winning team effort!
It seems that there is a separation within the artists community that has been created over the years here in Southwest Florida and it wasn’t by choice or market demand or anything of that nature , it just happened………fate?……..who knows, but my goal, or maybe I should say OUR goal, is to break down that wall and expand our creative energies amongst all artists and to include everyone in Southwest Florida that the arts just doesn’t just stop at the canvas or the sculpture or in our case the walls. Two of the most inspirational artists I have met so far on my life long journey as an artist, are the ones who have really opened up my mind and my eyes to how important it is to the psyche of an artist to expand and grow in his or her creative energy. William Cochran who I have had the honor to sit with last November and Sean Crosby (USA) who I have met many years ago along with Michele Nadai from France. I have noticed that much of the area residents love the arts but because decorative artists have such a separation from other artists we are not being recognized both publicly and privately so in actuality the general public doesn’t really know where we are and has caused an outsourcing scenario when it comes to the needs of the public here in Southwest Fl. My goal is to change all that and to bring the available talent of the area to the attention of the local and seasonal residents as a way to help our local economy and decorative artists.
The other goal is to bring more education to Southwest Florida for decorative artists of the area because quite simply most of us here don’t either have the time or the funds to travel around the country and Europe to get the much needed education that I have found personally there is a demand for, which is the reason for the grand opening of a studio in January of 2010 in which I have already made arrangements with some of the top artists in the business to come to the area to help with the needs of the local decorative artists as well as ALL artists.
