Marbleizing columns is an art in itself.

There are many many different colors of marbles but basically, there are only 4 or 5 structures that are important to know. The composition is also an important aspect to pay particular attention to as interest shouldn’t be overpowering. As a rule, less is best when realism is the effect that you are trying to achieve. Painting marble has always fascinated me, just as everything else that goes with decorative painting does,  but from my own experience I can tell you that over veining your work  is very easy to do, especially when you love painting as much as I do

Marbling doesn’t have to be complicated to visually get the look, just a lot of practice, like in this fantasy marble. One-color in different values can create some nice depth without spending a huge amount of time on it. But for the Sienna marble, rouge royal, violet breche, and the more complicated marbles and stone there is more time involved.

This technique is a good place to start to learn the basics of different marble structures and understand the importance of color value as well.
